After the electrical installation has been completed, we all seem to forget about it. The rigours of daily use and everyday wear and tear slowly deteriorate the electrical installation. Damage that can occur can go unnoticed until an item stops working or worse, somebody has an accident. This risk of an event like this occurring can be reduced by having regular checks and inspections carried out by a trained professional. If you are an employer you have a responsibility towards your employees to provide a safe working environment. Best Practice to ensure compliance involves:-
-
All Wiring should be tested and inspected at intervals not exceeding 5 years, or such other periods as recommended.
-
Following each scheduled test and inspection, remedial work should be carried out as necessary and an appropriate certificate issued.
-
Portable Appliance Testing should be carried out on an annual basis.
-
Regular maintenance of the electrical installation should be undertaken.
How Pro-Link can Help You
We can carry out Periodic Inspection and Testing of the wiring in accordance with BS7671:2008 The Wiring Regulations. This includes a visual inspection of the condition of all electrical accessories, their terminations and markings, followed by fully testing the circuits to check the continuity of earthing conductors, polarity, breakdown of cable insulation and operation of RCDs.
A written report will be given detailing any recommended work required to bring the installation back to a safe working state. After a number of these inspections, any pattern of deterioration can be identified and dealt with quickly.
We can also carry out portable appliance testing (PAT) and provide you with an electrical log to keep records of your electrical reports and certificates as well as a timetable of recommended inspection dates.
Ongoing maintenance is another area where we can help, for example, regular replacement of fluorescent tubes may improve the quality of lighting in your work environment as-well as getting rid of those annoying flickering lights.
We understand that you need to minimise disruption to your business when work is being carried out. We can work with you to find the best times to carry out the work. We will always be courteous and efficient to minimise and disruption to your daily operations.
